Inorganic thin films with heterogeneous mechanical properties are able to transform into three-dimensional (3D) geometries spontaneously. In this study, we apply this principle to all-polymer films for building 3D polymeric architectures. The 3D architectures with controllable diameter are fabricated by the self-folding roll-up process; thereby they can encapsulate, manipulate, and observe adherent cells in vitro. Thus, the wrapped multiple cells can be artificially reconstructed into hollow or fiber-shaped cellular 3D constructs that possess intrinsic morphologies and functions of living tissues.
