[18p-B203-14] A Unified Theoretical Analysis of Optical Noises in Semiconductor Lasers and Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers

Minoru Yamada

Keywords:semiconductor laser, semiconductor optical amplifier, optical noise

The semiconductor laser (SLO) and the semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) are made of almost same materials and the structures. Howerver, way of theoretical analysis of these devices is different, where the SLO is analyzed based on the standing wave model while the SOA is on the traveling wave model. In this paper, a unified theoretical analysis is applied both on the SLO and the SOA based on the time dependent travering wave model. The noise characteristics are analyzed in these devices and compared each other.
