The applicability of group-IV alloys to micro thermoelectric generators will be discussed based on our current activity on the development of silicon nanowire micro thermoelectric generator device. Although the most studies on the thermoelectric materials make emphasis on the enhancement of the efficiency of energy conversion, it is more important for energy harvesting apllicarion to enhance the generation power suppressing the device fabrication cost. From this point, we discuss about the advantages/disadvantages of group-IV alloys, such as SiGe and GeSn.
