In order to develop the new electron-acceptor units with strong electron affinity and high self-assembling nature, we designed and synthesized the new thiadiazole-based acceptor, FBTzE, based on the vinylene-bridged difluorobenzothiadiazole scaffold, which is a well-known strong acceptor for high-performance solar cells. We also synthesized FBTzE-based low-bandgap semiconducting polymers. Fabrication and characterization of this polymer-based solar cell exhibited good performances with power conversion efficiency of up to 5.2%.
