Trace atoms such as dopants, metal atoms in molecules, etc., often play essentially important roles in their functionality. Recently, several 3-dimensional local non-periodic atomic structure visualization technologies, such as atomic resolution holography, have been developed, and new project “3D active-site science” has been established. A new concept of science "local structure governed materials science" is being developed.
