Pentacene is one of the most basic materials used in organic thin-film transistors, and its film structure is studied widely. The molecule has a very high crystallinity in a thin film, in which the molecular-axis is oriented perpendicular to the substrate surface. In the present study, a new film phase of pentacene having a face-on orientation is first identified by means of pMAIRS and GIXD.
