In this study, we developed a highly efficient broadband coupling structure between resonant tunneling diodes (RTDs) and a photonic crystal waveguide for a terahertz integrated system. We successfully fabricated the photonic-crystal waveguide integrated with both the RTD transmitter and receiver for terahertz communication. We demonstrated error-free transmission at 9 Gbit/s using the fabricated device.
