We have developed NASSCA (Nano-Structured Semi-Conductor-Assisted) optical tweezers using black silicon with nano-structured surface. Manipulation techniques of nanomaterials such as molecules, DNA, and proteins will open a new horizon of material sciences using this method. We found that NASSCA optical tweezers trapped numerous polymer nanospheres around an irradiation area. Since an optical force exerted on nanospheres strongly depends on their polarizability, NASSCA optical tweezers have great potential for separating and trapping them according to their sizes and shapes. In this study, we demonstrate size selective trapping of different sized polymer nanoparticles by NASSCA optical tweezers.
