Electrons in a metal nanoparticle showing strong coupling with light, which is called local surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), have attracted considerable attention because the electrons cause unique optical properties. However, the dependence of capping-molecules on LSPR properties of a metal nanoparticle remains to be completely elucidated. Here we repot that the density of electronic state (DOS) at the metal/capping-molecule interface is found to play a key role in determining a permittivity of the capping-molecules. Since the permittivity around a metal nanoparticle affects the LSPR properties, the DOS at the interface is one of the origins of the dependence. For nanoparticles with capping-molecules consisting of a carbon chain, the permittivity of the molecules has been understood to be a constant value so far. The present results suggest that the understandings for capping-molecules on a metal nanoparticle would not be exactly correct.
