Compound bulk crystals are required as substrate material of optoelectronic devices since electric and optical characteristics are controlled by adjusting the composition of the constituents. However, it is difficult to grow homogeneous and low-defect bulk single crystals with any composition under a terrestrial condition. Therefore, crystal growth controlled by external force fields is a key technology to solve the problem. The history of our related research by utilizing a microgravity environment and a high magnetic field, and the latest results of InGaSb crystal growth research will be introduced.
