Recently, hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites have attracted great attention in photovoltaic applications due to their exceptional properties, such as high optical absorption, strong luminescence, and tunable bandgap. Thus, heterostructures of perovskites with other 2D materials can offer exciting new phenomena and expand the properties of the constituents. However, because of their solubility in common solvents conventional lithography and transfer techniques are not applicable to perovskites to realize complicated heterostructures. Here, by using tungsten disulfide (WS2) as an effective template and strictly controlling the deposition conditions, we demonstrate the selective and epitaxial growth of 2D lead iodide (PbI2) on monolayer WS2 and successive vapor-phase conversion to 2D perovskite/WS2 heterostructure.
