[20a-E307-4] Hydrophobicity Improvement of Stainless-Steel Plates by Forming Lens-Like Protrusions
Keywords:lens-like protrusion, hydrophobicity, stainless steel plate
Improvement of hydrophobic property of stainless-steel plates of SUS304 was investigated by modeling the surface structure of hydrophobic dead leaves of oxalis deppei, and forming lens-like low protrusions on the stainless-steel plates. Randomly arrayed low gentle protrusions with sizes of 20-100 µm were observed on the dead leaves. However, dot patterns with a diameter of 20 µm were arrayed in a hexagonal honeycomb structure with an interval of 15 µm between neighbored dots. The dot patterns were printed using lithography, and the stainless-steel plates were etched in ferric chloride aqueous solution. When protrusion heights were 6-7 µm, contact angles reached 95º.
