The surface degradation of a multicrystalline silicon solar cell module was investigated using the laser beam induced current (LBIC) technique. The internal quantum efficiency (IQE) intensity at a wavelength 405 nm is 14% lower than those at the three wavelengths, 632 nm, 650 nm, and 670 nm. The incident light at the wavelength of 405 nm is nearly entirely absorbed near the surface. The reduction in the IQE intensities is caused by high recombination density around the surface, and the degraded layer is estimated to be ~0.6 μm. The LBIC technique at several wavelengths is useful for analyzing degraded solar cells.
