[20p-E203-8] Discussion on the Magnetically Orientation Controlled Transparent Ceramics Made of Uni-axial Optical Crystals

In order to develop the anisotropic laser ceramics, we proposed the orientation control of crystalline grains in polycrystals by use of the microdomain control technology. We found the reduction of the birefringent scattering loss in anisotropic polycrystals with orientation-controlled microdomains, and realized the laser oscillation from anisotropic transparent ceramics made of rare-earth doped fluoroapatites belonging to the hexagonal lattice system. In this work, we discussed the orientation control by the external magnetic field for the fabrication of various kinds of transparent ceramics made of representative uniaxial optical crystals.
