Keywords:photonic Dirac cone, SOI, photonic crystal slab

Photonic Dirac cone is a photonic analog of the linear-dispersion electronic state of graphene. Accidental degeneracy between two different eigenstates leads to create a Dirac cone even at the center of Brillouin zone (Gamma point), which thus makes it possible to design various unique optical devices, which include scattering-free waveguides. To date we have theoretically investigated conditions to achieve the accidental degeneracy [1]. Here we have successfully fabricated and measured a photonic Dirac cone at Gamma point in a sample based on commercially available SOI substrates. This work is supported by ATLA.
