▲ [20p-E313-16] AMCW 3D Laser Scanner Employing Optical Attenuator for Avoidance of Receiver Saturation
Keywords:3D measurement, laser scanner, LiDAR
As Industry 4.0 is booming in recent years, the need for manufacturing automation and factory smartification has increased drastically. Measurement of 3D geometry is a key method for assessing automatically manufactured components to achieve advanced management in “smart factories”. Amplitude-modulated continuous wave (AMCW) 3D laser scanner benefits from high spatial resolution, illumination independence etc., which proves to be a powerful instrument for 3D measurement. However, such laser scanners suffer from severe data loss in point clouds for measuring objects with high reflectivity due to the saturation of receiver electronics. In this paper, we investigate this problem in detail, and recover data loss by employing a variable optical attenuator (VOA) in the receiver.
