[21a-E203-1] Solar-pumped fiber laser operating without a concentrator

We have succeeded in oscillation of a solar-pumped laser (SPL) without any concentrator for the first time. The apparatus is composed of an optical fiber which is immersed in a sensitizer and sandwiched by a pair of highly reflective mirrors. Oscillation threshold was a 70% of natural sunlight, which is a 1/10000 of conventional SPLs. Highest output power was 250 μW. Output power is scaled with fiber length and a 1% optical-to-optical conversion efficiency is predicted by out numerical simulation.
