Monoclinic bismuth vanadate (BiVO4) has recently been
identified as a promising visible-light photocatalyst for O2 evolution
by virtue of its favorably positioned band edges and high
stability in aqueous media. Recent DFT calculations on electronic
structure of monoclinic BiVO4 suggest weak hole localization
(mh =0.7m0),1 further confirming its potential for performing
water oxidation reaction that involves four holes transfer
to produce one O2 molecule. To date, however, practical
performance of BiVO4 has been far below what is expected, because
it su ers from severe electron-hole pairs recombination.
In this work, we analyze steady-state and time-resolved photoluminescence
(TRPL) measurements of two powdered nondoped
BiVO4 samples synthesized at di erent temperatures. We
have previously demonstrated that these samples show di erent
activities for photocatalytic O2 evolution.
