In this study, we have numerically investigated bandstructures in bulk Bi under compressive stress, and discuss the influence of compressive stress on quantum effect in Bi nanowires. As a result, since the compressive stress induces the band shift of L-point pockets, the critical wire diameter increases. These results shows the quartz capsulated Bi nanowire could realize quantum effect for larger wire diameter.
