Size dependent absorption band gap and solution process compatibility make colloidal quantum dots attractive materials for low-cost solar cells and photodetectors. So far, various semiconductor nanoparticles have been synthesized and applied to solar cells such as quantum dot-sensitized solar cells and solid state heterojunction solar cells. In particular, heterojunction solar cells made up of wide bandgap semiconductors and PbS colloidal quantum dots have been widely studies. This is chiefly because of their wide bandgap tunability, enabling to cover the full solar spectrum. We review a recent progress in hetero-junction colloidal quantum dot-based solar cells together with our results regarding infrared solar cells.
