[10p-M113-5] Decrease of Concentration Boundary Layer Thickness by Imposing Magnetic Field

Guangye Xu1, Kazuhiko Iwai1 (1.Hokudai Univ.)

Keywords:concentration boundary layer thickness, mass transfer enhancement

To enhance mass transfer rate, imposing agitation in the vicinity of solid-liquid interface to decrease concentration boundary layer thickness has been proposed, and has been realized by using the difference in physical properties of these two phases. In this method, concentration boundary layer formed by dissolving solid copper from anode into aqueous solution. This research aims to compare the concentration boundary layer thickness by adding current (AC+DC) with or without the imposition of static magnetic field. The experimental results showed that with imposing magnetic field and current simultaneously, the concentration boundary layer thickness decreased in comparison with that only current was added. This means that the imposition of magnetic field could decrease the concentration boundary layer thickness, and by this way, the mass transfer rate could be enhanced.
