As a non-contact real-time 3D imaging technique, Optical Coherence Tomograhy (OCT) has been applied in vast field for its convenience and has been developed to several benches. One of them is the Swept Source OCT(SS-OCT) which required a large wavelength tuning range light source instead of a movable reference arm. Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers is the perfect option as light source and generally wavelength tuning could be achieved by using Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS)techniques, which is ,however ,challenging us with its complexity lies on its fabrication.
In this report, we proposed and fabricated a novel structure for a large tuning range ,single mode ,economical friendly Vcsels. The wavelength tuning is based on self-heating effect and fulfilled by on-chip integrated heater. Our proposal has show its potential for larger tuning range, low costs, high SMSR light source which is applicable for SS-OCT.
