Liquid crystal diffractive optical elements (LC-DOEs) have an advantage that the parameters of the light wave can be controlled multiply by the optical anisotropy and alignment state of the LCs. In the present study, the structure composed of photoalignment substrates with periodic and asynchronous optical anisotropic distributions is called a “beat structure” and diffraction properties of the LC-DOE with the beat structure are demonstrated.
