We developed the 1.5-μm optical amplifier for the wind-sensing coherent Doppler lidar. To amplify 1.5-μm optical pulses to mJ-level, we adopted planar waveguide structure and Erbium/Ytterbium-doped phosphate glass. To obtain further output energy, we suppressed amplified spontaneous emission (ASE). We reduced preamplifier’s output energy to suppress ASE, and increased pumping laser power of the planar waveguide amplifier. As a result, the highest output energy of 15.8 mJ was obtained.
