PEDOT (poly (3, 4-ethylenedioxythiophene)), which is a conductive polymer having both high electrical conductivity and stability, is usually produced by oxidative polymerization of EDOT (3, 4-ethylenedioxythiophene). It is known that PEDOT polymerizes and grows like a wire from the tip of the electrode only when a square wave voltage is applied to a needle-shaped Au electrode in monomer EDOT solution. In this study, we perform a liquid atomic force microscopy in order to investigate the wire-shape polymerization of PEDOT in more detail. A square wave voltage of various amplitude and frequencies is applied to the Au-coated cantilever on an Au electrode on a glass substrate. We discuss about the mechanism of wire-like polymerization of PEDOT between the sub-micrometer gap between cantilever and tip of electrode using the force curve and the AFM image.
