A thin film of pentacene (PEN) can be prepared by a solution process using a solvent soluble PEN precursor (SAP) with a thermal treatment. In the present study, the process of the thermal conversion reaction is pursued by using pMAIRS. Chemometric analysis of the pMAIRS spectra revealed that the chemical reaction process involved three distinguishable components. The three components are SAP and two polymorphs of PEN. Quantities of the three components were analyzed by using classical-least squares (CLS) regression technique, and the reaction process has readily been revealed quantitatively.
