The authors propose a method for fabricating a near-field optical fiber probe to enhance the aspect ratio. The method involves four steps: (1) tapering clad, (2) hollowing the taper end portion, (3) flattening the end, and (4) protruding double-tapered core from the flattened clad. The fabricated probe has a flattened clad dimaeter of 4.5 microns and a small aspect ratio of 0.7.
