Smart stack multi-junction (MJ) solar cells are relatively easy to bond dissimilar material cells. However, the loss due to the current mismatch of each series-connected subcell is large because of two-terminal structure. As a solution to this problem, a three-terminal structure is adopted. The power generation characteristics and definite design method of three-terminal MJ solar cells are not sufficiently investigated. In this study, the effect of subcell area ratio in three-terminal smart stack MJ solar cell was clarified by circuit simulation and experiment.
