[11p-W621-11] Growth and mechanical properties of various C60 nanowhiskers

C60 nanowhiskers(C60NWs) are one of the fullerene crystals. The C60 crystals are known to be fragile because the C60 molecules in the crystal are bound by weak van der Waals forces. C60NWs are also fragile and easily broken in the air however, they are very flexible and exhibit large elastic deformation in the solution. In fact, such remarkable elastic bending studies in moleculer crystals are very few.In this study, we succeeded in growth of C60NWs which exhibit large elastic deformation even in air.
