Keywords:carbon nanotubes, Langmuir-Blodgett films, nanoparticles
It is important for wide application of vertically aligned carbon nanotubes (VA-CNTs) to control CNT diameter and distance between CNTs which consist of VA-CNTs. We have tried to control the morphology of VA-CNTs by employing Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique. We have thought that LB technique can control the constitution of VA-CNTs because it can directly deposit catalysts to grow CNTs and filler molecules to control the distance between CNTs. However, the traditional LB technique cannot achieve wide and exact control because palmitic acid we employed as filler molecules cannot suppress heat aggregation enough. Therefore, in this study, we employed silica nanoparticles as filler molecules because silica has high heat resisting properties.
