Recently, we have succeeded in preparing the radially-assembled and fibrously connecting carbon nanohorns, named as carbon nanobrushes (CNBs). CNBs have high dispersibility, large specific surface areas, and high electrical conductivity. Therefore, the CNBs are an excellent candidate for the electrode materials of various sensing and energy devices. CNBs are easily prepared by laser ablation of Fe-containing carbon target at room temperature, but their yield is low and the major products are the spherical single-walled carbon nanohorn (CNH) aggregates. In this study, we tried to prepare CNBs by using carbon target containing different catalysts such as Co and Ni other than Fe.
