Zinc oxide nanoparticles were synthesized for ultraviolet light device applications. For suppressing defect emission which is a problem inhibiting the use of zinc oxide nanoparticles, a shell covering the zinc oxide core was grown. Defective light emission is suppressed, and is attributed to the reduction of surface defects by shell growth. It also shown that growth anisotropy of the shell is controlled by changing the growth environment, altering the emission characteristics.
