Keywords:excited state in the conduction band, gold nanoparticles, hot electrons

The discovery of high catalytic activity of nanometer sized gold, which is chemically inert in bulk, triggered nano-science. It is known that the origin of the high catalytic activities is defect. Highly energetic electrons known as “hot electrons” is the hottest topics in nano materials. However, the electronic structure in nanomaterials controlling dynamics of electrons has not been discussed so far.
We revealed the excited state in gold nanoparticles by applying our theory of hot electrons.
