The ray-wave correspondence in two-dimensional optical cavities is an interesting research topic from a viewpoint of fundamental physics. The optical ray confined in a circular cavity exhibits regular motion. On the other hand, the optical ray confined in a stadium-shaped cavity exhibits fully chaotic motion. In this work, we investigated the morphological dependence of modal loss numerically by varying the cavity shape from a circular shape to a Bunimovich stadium shape gradually. We found that high-Q whispering gallery modes and low-Q higher-order modes show different tendencies. We will discuss our numerical results based on the ray motion.
