▲ [12a-W631-2] Kilohertz coupling rate between mechanical oscillators via optical cavity resonance
Keywords:Optomechanics, Photonic crystal cavity, Coupled mechanical oscillators
Coupling of mechanical oscillators is a crucial technology for constructing micro/nano-mechanical processors for RF signals. The coupling has been realized with structural, electrical and optical principles. All-optical coupling has unique advantages, for example, compatibilities with both the large-scale fiber-optic networks and the nanoscale PICs or optical quantum information processors. Nowadays, optical coupling of disparate mechanical oscillators has been realized, but the feature size is in millimeter scale and the coupling rate is ~10 Hz. Here, we designed the nano-mechanical oscillators which are coupled via optical resonance of double-nanobeam PhC cavities. The optical spring effect in this optomechanical device plays a key role in coupling the mechanical oscillators. The measurement result shows a coupling rate of 4 kHz, which is as high as the electrical field coupling.
