[9a-PA2-20] High isomerization sensitivity on amorphous azobenzene surfaces
Keywords:azobenzene, surface, isomerization
Organic device characteristics are significantly affected by physical/chemical property of organic surface. Organic surfaces have a lower glass transition temperature than that of bulk. Other physical properties, therefore, may be influenced by the surface. The isomerization reaction in the azobenzene derivative (BFlAB) film is induced by heat or light. Free space around the BFlAB molecules is an important factor for isomerization because of a large molecular structural change in cis/trans isomerization. In this study, we report the free surface of a BFlAB played an important role in both the thermal isomerization and photoisomerization. We obtained the result that molecules on the free surface have a high isomerization sensitivity.
