Keywords:silicide, hematite, transformation

Recently we investigated the reduction process of the Fe2O3 (α-hematite) by silicon oxides with use of in-situ observation in TEM. Si also reduced hematite and we found precipitated-Fe transformed to silicide by electron irradiation. The transformation completed was extremely short term within one frame of VTR. The detailed structure of the transformed precipitate was identified by diffraction spots. The transformed precipitate became stable even in longer electron irradiation. These results indicated that the possibility of silicide formation directly from iron ore.
