We report highly sensitive fluorescence imaging flow cytometry using newly developed virtual-freezing fluorescence imaging method. This method enables fluorescence imaging flow cytometry at a throughput comparable to conventional non-imaging flow cytometry and an unprecedentedly high sensitivity. As a proof-of-concept demonstration, we obtained fluorescence images of two types of mouse white blood cells (neutrophil and lymphocyte), quantified lobulation of their nuclei, and classified the cell types with an accuracy of 95%.
