[9p-M101-4] Quadrupole moment in Mn3-xGa detected by x-ray magnetic linear dichroism

Mn3-xGa alloys are widely recognized as hard magnets which exhibit highly anisotropic, ferromagnetic, and metallic properties. In order to investigate the origin of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in Mn3-xGa, we performed x-ray magnetic linear dichroism (XMLD). We found that not orbital magnetic moments but quadrupole moments are essential by means of XMLD.
