[9p-PB1-61] Noncontact rotational manipulation of spherical persistent luminescent material levitated in a GdCl3 aqueous solution in a magnetic field
Keywords:Magneto-Archimedes effect, Magnetic levitation, Persistent luminescent material
When a persistent luminescent material doped with rare-earth elements such as Eu and Dy is irradiated by UV light, the valence of the doped rare-earth ion is changed by electron excitation, resulting in the decrease of magnetic moment in the material. Making use of this magneto-optical effect, we succeeded in noncontact optical translational manipulation of an object, which is composed of persistent luminescent material and resin, under a magnetic field Furthermore, we attempted to rotate the material by asymmetric irradiation of light. As a result, a spherical sample containing persistent material slightly moved, however, it did not completely rotate. The experimental details will be discussed in the presentation.
