[9p-PB3-21] Optical properties of ZnO NPs -Synthesis solvents and particle size effects-
Keywords:zinc oxide, nano-particle, Optical property
Zinc oxide (ZnO) is a wide band gap 3.4 eV semiconductor, having high exciton binding energy of 60 meV; it is used as ultraviolet light emitters. ZnO particles are widely used as safety white pigment for baby powder. Thus, ZnO has a potential to use as light emitter for medical field. In this study, ZnO NPs were prepared in EtOH or 2-PrOH solution by a precipitation method, and the relationship between their optical absorption and emission profiles and their preparation conditions were investigated. From the TEM and TED observation, the particle sizes were 10 - 20 nm, and the crystal structure was a wurtzite. UV-vis absorption edge wavelengths of ZnO NPs prepared in both EtOH and 2-PrOH were observed at around 360 nm. Exciton emission peak wavelengths were also observed at around 360 nm. Both wavelengths shift to longer with increasing in the reaction time. The tendency of the wavelength shift in EtOH was smaller than that in 2-PrOH.
