Keywords:image sensor

In this study, we propose and demonstrate a novel pixel structure that is sensitive to only angled incident light angle. This pixel can be implemented in a small implantable image sensor based on complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology. By the combination with an image processing technique, the pixel resolves spatial resolution degradation as the increment of distance between the image sensor and object. From experimental results, the proposed pixel showed the peak sensitivity at incident light angle of approximately 40 degrees with the full width at half maximum (FWHM) achieved 23 degrees. It would be applicable to reconstruct of three dimensional images by image processing.
