When a ferroelectric material is irradiated with light with energy greater than the band gap, electrons in the valence band are excited in the conduction band and holes are created in the valence band.The spontaneous polarization of ferroelectric materials can cause redox reactions between the separated electrons and holes. Water splitting using a ferroelectric material as a photoelectrode has been attracting attention (Fig. 1) (1). In this study, (Pb,La)TiO3 (PLT) epitaxial thin films were prepared and their photoelectrochemical properties were evaluated.
