△ [8p-Z13-8] Circularly Polarized Luminescence from Self-assembled Chiral Bipolar Microspheres
Keywords:circularly polarized luminescence, chiral, conjugated polymer
Here, we present chiral cholesteric microspheres exhibiting remarkable CPL properties. Self-assembly of π-conjugated polymers bearing a chiral side chains resulted in well-defined solid microspheres with a few micrometers in diameter. Transmission electron microscopy of a cross-section of the sliced microsphere revealed that the polymers are anisotropically organized with helically stacked structures. The chiral microspheres in suspension exhibited CPL with glumvalues of 0.2 due to circular selective scattering by the helically ordered stacks of the polymers. Finally, we discuss about CPL behavior of individual microspheres by micro scale photoluminescence measurement of a single chiral microsphere.
