Persistent phosphor SrAl2O4:Eu2+, Dy3+ has been used as luminous paints for emergency signs and dial of watch. In this study, SrAl2O4:Eu2+, Dy3+ was synthesized by a melt quenching method using a specially designed arc-imaging furnace. 1 mol% Eu2+ and 0-10 mol% Dy3+ doped samples were prepared by the melt quenching technique. (Sr0.97Eu0.01Dy0.02)Al2O4 synthesized by the melt quenching method showed higher afterglow intensity than that synthesized by the SSR. Moreover, the afterglow emission intensity of the melt quenched sample improved as Dy3+ concentration increased.
