Kinetic self-assembly of planar chiral π-conjugated molecule was carried out. The molecules assembled into hexagonal bowl-shaped microcrystals, unidirectionally grown on the substrate. Crystal structure analysis revealed that resultant symmetry is originated from hexagonal system. Furthermore, by tuning the initial supersaturated state, morphologies of the microcrystals were finely controlled while preserving the hexagonal symmetry. The growth mechanism is explained by three-dimensional diffusion-limited growth model. Furthermore, hierarchical crystallization is realized using enantiopure and enantiomeric molecules.
