Multivalued logic circuits, which can process more information than conventional binary circuits, hold promise in the Internet of Things (IOT) society. This is because the technique has a potential to improve the data processability of current organic integrated circuits. In this study, we developed a new organic transistor that is anti-ambipolar transistor (AAT). The striking point of the device is that the transistor has a pn junction at the center of the transistor channel. The feature enabled the observation of negative resistance at room temperature. The drain current rapidly increased and then decreased with the gate voltage. Furthermore, we achieved a ternary inverter operation, where an AAT and a conventional n-type transistor are connected in series. Three distinct logic states clearly appeared in the voltage transfer curve. Our findings therefore would provide a promising way to attain high-performance organic integrated circuits.
