Dynamic modulation of the Q factor by a coupled resonator is an important tehnology when applying microresonators to signal processing, and it has been demonstrated in whispering gallery mode resonators and silicon microring resonators. In this sudy, we report the results of experiments on efficient mode coupling between a silica whispering gallery mode resonator and a silicon photonic crystal and formation of a coupled resonator. If efficient coupling between different types of resonators can be realized, new applications that cannot be realized with a coupled resonator using the same type of resonator are expected.
