When glasses are exposed to ionizing radiation, electron-hole pairs are generated in the glass. Some of the electrons and holes are captured by metal ions in the glass, and new luminescent species are generated. The luminescence emitted by the species is called radiophotoluminescence (RPL). In our laboratory, we found that an aluminoborosilicate glass containing a very small amount of Cu exhibits RPL. In this study, we report the glass composition dependence of the RPL behavior in the Cu-doped aluminoborosilicate glass. It was found that the atomic ratio of Cu2+ to Cu+ was higher in the glass with higher basicity and then the glass had a higher sensitivity of the RPL.
