It is well known that highly volatile radioactive cesium (Cs) was released after severe accidents such as the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident. It is important to clarify its behavior from the viewpoint of safety evaluation immediately after the accident and in the future. In this study, chemical states of a stainless steel surface on which Cs had been adsorbed was studied by using in situ synchrotron radiation X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.
